Tell us all about Rockpool:
Rockpool was launched in 2021 by Penny, Sarah, Luke and Matthias — four friends from Singapore who love rum and have many fond memories of drinking it together. Singapore is our home, but we are from diverse backgrounds: Australia, UK and Germany. None of us had any background in the spirits or F&B industry, so we are proper outsiders. We are independent, self-funded and bootstrapping at every possibility … and we love it.
It seemed that most of the rums on the market were old, dusty with at least a hint of pirate. We wanted to create something new, fresh and modern instead. While rock pools offer a safe way to enjoy the sea, they are carved out and fil
led up by the wild waters of the ocean. In the same way, Rockpool offers a refreshing modern take on rum without taming the hint of danger inherent to a drink with such wild beginnings.
Rockpool is an award-winning, expertly crafted blend of 3-5 year old rum from Barbados and the Dominican Republic. Smooth enough to sip, bold enough to create the perfect cocktail. Balanced aromas of light vanilla and dried orange peel make for a warm finish — innately sippable, yet very mixable.
What do you hope to achieve with Rockpool?
We want Rockpool to be famous for the right reasons, by doing things a bit differently. We have the liberty and the obligation to break some category norms and we need to be creative with the small budgets that we have. Our goal is to help people (re)discover rum and ultimately make more people care about this incredible spirit.
Biggest challenge you've faced with Rockpool:
The biggest challenge we face is to compete with the big brands who have a sales playbook and deep pockets. We’re doing a lot of things well but we are also making a lot of mistakes and it’s just hard for a new brand to break into an established category. We love the challenge and we are getting better with every win and every loss.

The look on people’s faces when they try Rockpool for the first time is priceless. Our rum has a unique flavor profile that most people don’t expect and most of them are positively surprised. I wish we could capture each of these discovery moments

We are a young brand from Singapore that is challenging a Goliath every day and we can’t do this without supportive partners.
